SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is pleased to announce that the SGS Wind Energy Technology Center (WETC) was opened on June 13, 2011, in Tianjin, China in response to the high demand for full-scale testing of rotor blades on an international footing and in China.

The new SGS Wind Energy Technology Center (PDF 153 KB) is located in the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area (TEDA), North China’s center of processing and manufacturing industries and springboard for the commercialization of high-tech achievements. The opening ceremony was a high-profile event attended by Mr. Yang Xiao Yong, Director of Tianjin Bureau Quality and Technical Supervision, Mr. Zhang Jun, Vice Director of the management committee of TEDA, Mr. Chris Kirk, CEO of SGS, Mr. Helmut Chik, COO of SGS China and Hong Kong, as well as Mr. Richard Shentu, Managing Director of SGS-CSTC.

During the opening of this groundbreaking center, attendees had an ideal opportunity to learn more about the renewable energy sector, the WETC and Rotor Blade Testing from the prestigious guests present at the event. Mr. Chris Kirk, CEO of SGS said, “In recent years, China has leapt forward to become the world's largest developer of wind energy. This also contributes to the R&D escalation for wind turbine generator systems and components in China and throughout Asia.”
